The holidays are over, and winter has now fully set in. If you’ve been putting off some scheduled maintenance, now is definitely the time to get on it. Today, let’s hone in on a specific type of vehicle: GMC work trucks.
Here at Bob King Buick GMC, our service center is fully equipped to handle the following GMC work truck service tasks.
Oil Changes
There are a number of service tasks to keep in mind, but regular oil changes are still probably the most important, especially for heavily hauling trucks.
For years, the go-to advice was to have your oil changed every 3,000 miles. More recent advances in synthetic lubricants have pushed that out a bit: now, it’s recommended that you get oil changes every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
Keeping fresh oil running through your work truck ensures that your engine parts don’t wear down as fast and keeps everything running at peak efficiency.
Seasonal Service Checks
Every year, you need to keep up with certain service tasks as the seasons change. Keep up with oil changes, but also be sure to test and check your battery and battery terminals.
Check and replace your weather stripping as needed, and check and lubricate all your locks.
Tires & Long-Term Service
As your truck’s mileage builds up, you’ll need to keep up with certain service tiers per mileage marks. At 20,000, 40,000, and 60,000 miles, you’ll need to keep up with tasks such as:
- air filter
- brake lines and hoses
- inspect transmission
- inspect all steering components
- inspect exhaust components
- inspect ball joints and dust covers
Tires are also central to your GMC work truck’s efficiency. Check the wear on the treads and if they seem worn on all four (or six, with dually trucks) tires, replace them. Generally, you’ll want to replace your work truck tires every three years or so.
