You might hear a lot of unfamiliar terms when you're shopping for a new car, and one of them is probably going to be “car bill of sale.” We need one of these for every vehicle that we sell here at Bob King Buick GMC. Here's what drivers need to know about this document and what it's used for.

What is a Car Bill of Sale?

A bill of sale is simply what it sounds like. It's proof that a vehicle has been sold from one party to another. It also has to be notarized to be official.

What Information is in a Bill of Sale?

The bill of sale contains info about the seller, our dealership in this case, and the buyer. Your address is included, as is all of the information the Department of Motor Vehicles would need about the vehicle.

Your bill of sale lists the make, model, and year of your vehicle. The VIN number is on there as well.

Why Do I Need a Bill of Sale?

The bill of sale is important because it serves as the official record of your purchase. It shows that this car is now yours, and that no one else can make a claim to own it.

This is a necessity because you won't be able to register your car without it. You have to register your vehicle and title it in your name in order to be allowed to drive it around.

Without a title, insurance coverage, and a proper inspection, your car is a pricey ornament for your driveway. And you're not getting any of those things without the bill of sale.
